Daughtry Live at Eastwood City

It was a night of an unforgettably intimate rock experience. It was the Daughtry Live at Eastwood City concert last July 29.

Everyone followed Chris Daughtry’s career since American Idol. Though a non-winner, he continued to play his music. He formed the band, named after him, with Josh Paul on bass, Joey Barnes on drums, Brian Craddock and Josh Steely on guitars. Since their album’s release in 2006, Daughtry’s songs have been a mainstay in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 200 Albums- which only proves that people embrace their music.

Thus, it was only right that they visited the Philippines last July. And Eastwood was undoubtedly the perfect venue for their highly anticipated concert. Fifteen feet-tall walls and a big white tent enclosed the entire Eastwood Central Plaza. Chairs covered in white linen were set-up like escalating bleachers at the Araneta Coliseum. It was a small and intimate dome-like set-up. You could really see Daughtry up close!

The venue was already filling-up when I got there. Media men were busy setting up outside the Eastwood Central Plaza. Celebrities like Benjie Paras, Bianca Araneta-Elizalde, and many more were there too. There were groups of teenagers, yuppies, couples, foreigners, and even fathers with their young daughters.

At around 8:30 pm, the venue was packed. In high energies, Daughtry came out from the backstage and the audience started screaming and jumping. It was an instant standing ovation. Everyone was a rock music fanatic that night. The crowd was so pumped up they sang along to almost every song. No moment was spent sitting down or resting. The adrenaline was at a constant high from start to finish.

When Daughtry sang “Home,” the lights were dimmed and he asked everybody to take pictures all at once. The flash from the hundreds of cameras created amazing lighting.

Daughtry was so near the audience, and the connection was really intense. It wasn’t your normal rowdy rock concert. It was intimate and I just loved it!
